Artist: Henry Ossawa Tanner 1859-1937
Comments : Realist painters will paint what they see. So when American artist Henry Tanner (1859-1937) painted religious subjects like this 'Annunciation' he needed a realist's solution for the angel in the scene. As you look at the painting at this link there is an opportunity to enter into the experience of that young girl, in the presence of an angel, through her posture, turn of chin and facial expression.
